Lost Nation Airport terminal investment
The county and the port authority invested about $5 million in a new 5,200-square-foot terminal at the Lake County Executive Airport, with a $1.5 million county share from economic development funds, positioning the airport as an economic development asset.
Sheriff's department union agreements through 2029
Three OPBA contracts covering dispatchers, supervisors and deputized sergeants run through March 31, 2029, locking in staffing for the department as it prepares to move into the new jail.
Future Lake Tran terminal in downtown Painesville
Once the old jail is demolished in 2027, Lake Tran will build a new transit terminal across from the new jail, adding parking at the administration center and replacing the transit center near the JFS building.
Morton Salt Fairport Harbor closure and layoffs
The country's largest band-instrument maker plans to close its Eastlake plant and move 150 jobs to China. Commissioners and the county's economic development team are trying to engage the company, and a UAW rally was held that evening.
Senior services strategic plan and levy restructuring
The county adopted its first new senior services plan since 2015. Senior population is growing while levy dollars stay flat, so the plan aims to coordinate providers, modernize funding and improve access so older residents can age at home.
Jail construction progress
Administrator Jason Boyd reported pre-manufactured steel cells are arriving daily and installation has started — a milestone in the jail project.
Route 2 lighting
Commissioner Plecnik is pressing to finish lighting on Route 2 by next year as a safety issue, and the county engineer says the project can still go out to bid in time.
Lake Tran Airport Express Shuttle Beta Launch
Lake Tran is testing a $25 round-trip, door-to-door shuttle to Cleveland Hopkins Airport — $10 per extra guest, kids under two free, bookable online. Commissioners say it could save residents money versus parking, gas, or rideshares during holiday travel.
Waste Management Contract
Concord Township is switching to a single trash hauler, Major Waste Disposal, starting February 1. If you live there, get ready for a totally new pickup routine and probably different rates.
Girdled Road resurfacing – Phase 1 (Concord Township)
Bids will be advertised starting with an August 19, 2026 opening for Phase 1 of the Blackmore Road rebuild in Perry Township.
Lead service line inventory and replacement
New federal rules require the county utilities department to identify and replace every lead water line within ten years, starting in earnest in fall 2027 — roughly $5,000–$10,000 per line. Expect 20,000 more notification letters this fall, mostly for older west-end homes with no records.
Data centers in Lake County
A resident asked whether the county will hold a balanced public discussion about data centers coming to Lake County. Commissioners noted zoning is up to cities and townships, but the county controls water and sewer service, and the board agreed to bring local stakeholders together on community benefit agreements covering things like cooling systems, water use and tax abatements.
Demolition of 104 E. Erie Street Building
The Land Bank gets the go-ahead to demolish the old building at 104 E. Erie Street in Painesville, with state funding sought to help cover the cost.
Elimination of E-Check emissions testing
The county joined Gov. DeWine's push to eliminate E-Check emissions testing in Northeast Ohio. Commissioners say Lake County already meets EPA air standards and that sensors placed downwind of Cleveland unfairly burden local drivers.
Kirtland Wisner Road stacked wall repair
The county's stormwater division signed an agreement with Kirtland to repair a stacked wall on Wisner Road.
Early retirement of Public Safety Center and Engineer's project debt
The county is paying $32.5 million in notes, retiring Public Safety Center debt three years ahead of schedule. Commissioners say services won't be cut to make it happen.
Lake Tran sales tax and former jail site reuse
The Land Bank can demolish the old building at 104 E. Erie Street in Painesville, and the county will pursue state funding to offset the local cost.
Jail debt paydown strategy
The county put $10 million into a fund to buy back jail construction bonds early in 2029, potentially saving decades of interest on the $210 million project. The $50 million in short-term notes is already paid off, and commissioners stressed no taxes were raised to do it.
Flock License-Plate Cameras
A resident wanted to know whether commissioners will discuss the pros and cons of Flock cameras. Commissioners said the cameras are installed by cities, villages and townships, not the county, and defended them as a targeted law-enforcement tool rather than mass surveillance.
Safety Center construction progress
Administrator Jason Boyd reported the jail's front facade is finished, masonry on the juvenile court side is nearly wrapped, and third-floor holding cells arrived from Georgia and are being installed.
Dog shelter leadership and operations
After a rough summer with HVAC failures and operational problems, the county has hired Christian Courtwright from the Humane Society as the new Dog Warden starting October 30. Commissioners stressed high standards of care, adoptions first, and returning lost dogs.
Council of Governments for Mayors and Managers Association funds
Eastlake no longer wants to hold the Mayors and Managers Association's bank account, so the county proposed forming a Council of Governments to hold the money. The item was pulled for prosecutor review — officials stress it's not a new layer of government.
Timber Lane / Timberlane Drive name change
The board scheduled an October 8 public hearing on changing the name of Timber Lane to Timberlane Drive in Concord Township; residents can weigh in then.
